Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 27, 2025

x402.storage ("we", "our", or "us") provides a file storage service and browser extension. This policy explains how we handle your data.

What We Collect

We do not collect personal information. Specifically:

  • No accounts: You don't need to sign up or log in.
  • No tracking: We don't use analytics, cookies, or fingerprinting.
  • No file inspection: We store files as encrypted blobs on IPFS. We cannot read your content.

Chrome Extension

The x402.storage browser extension generates and stores a cryptocurrency wallet locally on your device.

  • Private keys never leave your device. Keys are stored in Chrome's local storage and are never transmitted to our servers.
  • Wallet address: Your public wallet address is sent to our API only to check your balance and process payments.
  • Uploaded files: Files you upload are sent to our API, stored on IPFS, and accessible via their content hash (CID).

Payments

We use the x402 payment protocol. When you upload a file:

  • Your extension signs a payment authorization locally.
  • The signed payment is sent with your upload.
  • We receive USDC (on Base) or SOL (on Solana) as payment.

We do not store payment card information because we don't accept credit cards.

Data Retention

  • Uploaded files: Stored permanently on IPFS. We cannot delete them.
  • Wallet data: Stored locally in your browser. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.

Third Parties

We use:

  • IPFS / Filebase: For decentralized file storage.
  • Base / Solana networks: For payment processing.

We do not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers.

Your Rights

  • Export: You can export your private key from the extension settings.
  • Delete: Uninstall the extension to remove all local data. Uploaded files on IPFS cannot be deleted due to the nature of content-addressed storage.

Security

Private keys are encrypted at rest using browser-native cryptography. We recommend keeping your wallet balance low (a few dollars) since browser extension storage is not as secure as a hardware wallet.

Changes

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with an updated date.
